Frequently Asked Questions

Wait for big returns, not answers.

A certificate is a savings account with a fixed rate and a fixed term. You deposit a set amount, leave it alone for the agreed-upon period, and earn a guaranteed return. It’s a good fit if you have money you don’t need to touch for a while and you want a better rate than a standard savings account without any market risk.
A savings account lets you move money in and out whenever you want. A certificate locks your rate (and your money) for a set term, and in exchange you earn a meaningfully higher return.
AllCom offers certificate terms from 6 months up to 60 months (5 years). You pick what fits your timeline. If you’re not sure, it’s worth thinking about when you might realistically need the money and choose a term shorter than that.
$500 to open a regular certificate. Jumbo certificates start at $50,000 and earn a slightly higher rate on 24-month terms and longer.
Right now, AllCom’s certificate rates range from 3.25% to 3.50% APY depending on the term. Shorter terms (6 and 7 months) currently earn 3.50% APY. Longer terms earn 3.25% APY. Jumbo certificates (starting at $50,000) earn 3.35% APY on terms of 24 months and up. Check our Rates page for the most current numbers, as rates can change.
The amount is set when you open it; you can’t add to a certificate mid-term. If you want to save more at that rate, you’d open a new certificate. That said, nothing stops you from opening multiple certificates at once (or staggering them over time, which some members do to balance access and earnings).
When your term ends, you’ll have options: Renew it, adjust the term, withdraw the funds, or roll it into something else. We’ll be in touch as your maturity date approaches so you have time to decide without any pressure.
You can access it, but an early withdrawal penalty will apply. The specifics depend on your term length. Contact us at 508.754.9980 and we’ll tell you exactly what the penalty would be for your account before you make any moves.

Yes. That’s the trade-off for the higher guaranteed rate; early withdrawal comes with a penalty. If you think you might need the money before the term is up, a money market account or a savings account gives you more flexibility, even if the return is lower.

A certificate locks in a fixed rate for a fixed period. You get a guaranteed return, but you’re committing to leaving the money alone. A money market account earns a variable rate and lets you withdraw when you need to (up to 6 times a month on the Basic, 3 on the Premium). If access matters to you, choose money market. If rate and certainty matter more, choose a certificate.
Yes. AllCom offers IRA Certificates (certificates held inside a Traditional or Roth IRA) which combine a guaranteed rate with the tax advantages of a retirement account. If that’s something you’re exploring, give us a call and we’ll walk you through how it works.
Simple question to ask yourself: will I need this money in the next 6 to 12 months? If yes, keep it in savings where it’s accessible. If no, a certificate will earn you significantly more. If you’re somewhere in between, a money market gives you a middle-ground rate with more flexibility.
